Our continuous commitment to more sustainable palm oil production is paying off: that is underlined by our Progress Report for 2024. In addition to the certification targets, this year we tracked the new additional criteria for the first time.
Our self-commitment: 100% certified palm oil
All FONAP member companies have committed to using 100% certified palm oil, palm kernel oil and their derivatives and fractions. In doing so they choose ambitious supply chain options intended to implement sustainability as far as possible in the physical supply chain. Through this self-commitment they actively advocate environmentally friendly and fair cultivation methods.
This year, too, the members almost fully met this self-commitment. With an average target achievement of over 99 percent, they once again underline their pioneering role in Germany.
Going beyond certification
Certification is an important step on the way to sustainable supply chains. Even ambitious systems such as the RSPO are not sufficient for this, however. As early as 2022, FONAP therefore adopted new additional criteria that go beyond certification. These include the protection of biodiversity, support for small-scale producers in the global supply chain, and compliance with human rights due diligence obligations.
For the Progress Report 2024, these additional criteria were surveyed on a mandatory basis for the first time. The results show that our members are making a serious effort to meet these criteria as well. Many of them have adopted strategies, implemented projects or advanced the topics in their supplier discussions.
