The official launch of the multi-stakeholder partnership took place on 11 November 2015 with the founding of the association in Berlin. The first members included committed actors from trade, processing, civil society, and politics.  <\/span><\/p><p class=\"cvGsUA direction-ltr align-start para-style-body\"><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">What began with a shared vision has developed over ten years into a strong alliance for sustainable palm oil. <\/span><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Today, FONAP brings together around 55 members and contributes through projects, partnerships, and concrete commitments along the entire supply chain.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"cvGsUA direction-ltr align-start para-style-body\"><span font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">The idea for the Forum for Sustainable Palm Oil (FONAP) arose in 2011 after a trip by REWE, WWF, and Henkel to Malaysia. After two years of negotiations, they founded the Forum for Sustainable Palm Oil in 2013 together with 16 other organizations \u2013 a precursor of the current association. Two years later, on 11 November 2015, the official founding of the association finally took place in Berlin, at which FONAP already counted 43 members and four guest members. 2016, FONAP strengthened its structures: members now independently verified whether the certificates of their suppliers were still sufficient. New working groups worked on solutions for derivatives and the further development of certification systems. In addition, a new self-commitment and a revised set of statutes were published. The first progress report was published, and the implementation of a member project in Malaysia with WWF and Wild Asia was decided. The aim of the project \u201cFrom Sustainable Palm Oil to Sustainable Landscapes\u201d was to promote sustainable landscape management through social forestry. September 2024, the second phase of the <a href=\"https:\/\/forumpalmoel.org\/en\/member-project-indonesia\/\">FONAP member project in Indonesia<\/a> was successfully completed. An important step was the establishment of a women-led cooperative to manage the nurseries. In addition, more than 2,000 trees were planted to advance the restoration of the region. By the conclusion of the project, the GPS data of 1,347 smallholders had been recorded. Furthermore, former Indonesian Ambassador Arif Havas Oegroseno delivered a keynote speech at the FONAP General Assembly and subsequently invited FONAP to a dialogue forum at the Indonesian Embassy in Berlin.
